Last week I moderated the first discussion in The REAL People’s Fund’s 3-Part Build Better Series. REAL stands for revolutionizing our economy for all local people. We’re talking about a regenerative economy because we are taking on the extractive capitalist system that is not made for us. And we are finding new ways of building power with our small businesses. Join us for part 2 this Monday, March 6 to learn how to participate in city decision-making that impacts all of our lives!
By addressing the deepest needs of our small business community, we can strengthen the voices of BIPOC and Flatland entrepreneurs while leveling the playing field for those who have been mostly impacted by unjust economic systems and the economic crisis caused by the pandemic. This is our opportunity to show up and out for the small businesses that shape Oakland’s culture and make our town what it is today!
The Build Better Series is a free in-person and virtual 3-part series, we highly recommend attending all three sessions to gain the most out of this knowledge-share:
1. Mon. 3/6 5:30-7:30pm | Oakland City Politics (virtual)
2. Mon. 3/13 5:30-7:30pm | Understanding the city’s budget (virtual)
Register today for these two remain sessions!
With new leadership in city hall, we have an opportunity to really push on things – from policies and to budgets. Join us in creating an Oakland that prioritizes and serves our local economy and communities. When local businesses thrive, we all thrive.
Oakland Rising is a founding member and on the governing body of the Revolutionizing our Economy for ALL Local (REAL) People’s Fund. We are committed to nurturing connections and strengthening the collective voice of Black, Indigenous, Latine, AAPI, and small businesses of color. Our goal is to build knowledge and community power to demand dignified resources for small businesses in the city of Oakland! Learn more about us at RealPeoplesFund.org.
