Oakland Rising and our collaborative partners hosted our post-election issues briefing with elected officials on December 14, 2018 at City Hall.

Representatives or their staff from local, county, state and federal offices with jurisdiction in Oakland attended to hear policy experts from East Bay Alliance for a Sustainable Economy, Causa Justa::Just Cause, Communities United for Restorative Youth Justice, Mujeres Unidas y Activas, and St. Mary’s Center present on:

  • Good Jobs
  • Environmental Justice and Healthy Housing
  • Housing Justice and Land Use
  • Justice Reform and Reinvestment
  • Civil Liberties and Immigration in a Freedom City
  • Decriminalizing the Poor and Vulnerable

The briefing not only provided elected officials with social justice-oriented policy frameworks around key issues in Oakland, but also identified areas for potential collaboration. Our member-based partners shared clear visions for what our communities need to address these issues. And, by outlining our expectations, we hope to improve accountability between electeds and our collaborative.

While our newly elected City Councilmembers all attended, we lost the attendance of seated Councilmembers and other elected City officials due to an emergency City Council meeting. We will be meeting one-on-one in January with those electeds to convey our priorities for 2019.
