5/13 Monday Meals: Staff Meet & Greet + What’s Going On In The Town?
“I think for a lot of people it’s easier to frame the narrative that Oakland is dangerous instead of framing it as people having needs that are not being met. We have to extract the different things that we see – that comes with understanding the landscape and the power map of everything, and what the budget can really do for us.” -Jess Inson
Stop the Taxpayer Deception Act and Protect Local Services
Real estate developers, corporate landlords, and big business are once again working to dupe California voters into letting them off the hook from paying their fair share of taxes. Californians are already fighting a corporate agenda on every front. From budget cuts...
03.04.24 Monday Meals: GOTV
“An informed voter is an important voter. It’s not enough to just say “I’m gonna vote.” – what does it mean to actually be informed on key issues and policies?” – Saabir Lockett, East Bay Alliance for a Sustainable Economy
02.26.24 Monday Meals: We Are California
“If we believe in the Oakland that everyone describes, that everyone says “I miss that old Oakland” – well that old Oakland took care of each other. We have to get back to those values, we have to bring back the importance of violence prevention as a care strategy.” -Pecolia Manigo
Building Local Power!
Get ready to come to your door and answer your phone! With the Primary less than a month away, we are running a winter Civic Engagement Program to reach voters on the most pressing issues impacting our communities this year. Our mission is clear – to ensure that every resident of Oakland and Alameda County has access to affordable housing, quality education, and essential city services.
2023 End-of-Year Highlights!
2023 marked 15 years of Oakland Rising building a true progressive voice and a progressive political landscape in Oakland! And while neo-liberals and others have co-opted the word progressive, let’s be clear: we stand for community-led solutions that center racial, economic and environmental justice, and ALWAYS puts people before profit.
A Huge THANK YOU to All Our Supporters!
We’re still buzzing from the incredible energy at our 15th Anniversary celebration earlier this month at 7th West. Thank you to everyone who joined us and made this an unforgettable night and one for the books! We extend our heartfelt gratitude to our Movement Friday DJ’s who helped make this event happen and dropped the heat on the dance floor.
12.04.23 Monday Meals: Ceasefire
“It’s important that we see this as the issue of our day today. And I think we are seeing that across the world, which is why millions are marching every single day.”
10.30.23 Monday Meals: Fall Civic Engagement Program (CEP)
This Monday Meals we had our very own Pecolia Manigo, OR Political Director and Vernetta Woods, OR IVE Team Leader share about our Fall Civic Engagement Program (CEP), focused on hearing from Oakland flatland voters on how they are being impacted by rising costs of living, along with education on how recalls are being used to undermine our democracy.
Our Fall 2023 Campaign Begins Now
This week marks our official campaign launch! We’re on a mission to transform Oakland and Alameda County into a more inclusive and transparent city and county by building up our people power! We envision a future where our neighbors in East and West Oakland, as well as in unincorporated and south Alameda County, have an affordable place to call home, schools that provide quality education, and programs and services that serve our community’s needs. We’re reaching out to low-turnout voters and engaging them in the political process to help create a more inclusive democracy, led by communities who have historically been left out of the decision-making process.
