Next Thursday, Oakland Rising will host the annual Oakland Progressive Party and Townie Awards. Despite our audacious fundraising goal of $25,000, the most important thing is that everyday Oaklanders are in the house to celebrate, network, and build community.
A recent article shows that income disparity among communities of color in Oakland is growing as our communities are displaced by gentrification. In the face of gentrification and displacement we need to ensure that we are creating progressive pathways for low-income, immigrant and communities of color to fully participate. At City Hall, this means opening up the galleries so that residents can watch Councilmembers deliberate Oakland’s most pressing issues. In the streets, it means allowing peaceful protest no matter the time of day.
For our party, it means offering half-price tickets to low-income, youth and seniors for just $20. You can purchase your tickets online today and we will be sure to have you on the guest list when you arrive at the party.
Tickets include open wine-bar serving organic wine from Frey Vineyards, delicious appetizers created by a local caterer, live music by Oakland’s own Kev Choice, and an opportunity to mix and mingle with Oakland’s progressive activists, leaders and electeds.
