Oakland educators are currently in the midst of negotiations with Oakland Unified School District (OUSD) to secure funding that will improve working conditions for teachers and create better learning conditions for students. The ultimate goal is to provide every Oakland student with a safe and stable learning environment. We believe that educators, parents, and community stakeholders should come together to demand change that benefits everyone, including students and the community as a whole.
We need your support to amplify the voices of OUSD educators who are committed to representing the needs of our marginalized students in the Flatlands. The Oakland Education Association (OEA) calls on you to:
1. Sign their petition,
2. Mobilize yourself, your organization and members, and
3. Share information about their upcoming events and actions on social media.
This Wednesday, March 15th, is the OEA Super Rally for Oakland Educators from 2pm – 6pm at the Lake Merritt Amphitheater (between 12th street and 1st Ave., Lake Merritt Blvd, Oakland CA 94612). Bring your posters and rallying items to make some noise and show your support for our educators who make a difference in the lives of our children everyday. If you can’t make it, you can show your support by sharing this email with your networks.
We also invite you to sign OEA’s petition demanding safe, racially-just schools:
Our aim is to make a significant impact by demanding Common Good Demands and calling on OUSD to invest in our students. Your support both on the ground and online will help improve Oakland’s schools and create a brighter future for our students.
P.S. Check out today’s recording of our Monday Meals installment with OEA Educators! Hilaria Barajas-Barragan, 3rd Grade Teacher at the International Community School, and Jimmy Barbuto, Social Science Teacher at Skyline High School, joined liz suk today to talk about the Common Good Demands currently in bargaining.
