Oakland Rising is teaming up with Oakland’s Young Progressives to usher in a new era of political power that is committed to building an Oakland for everyone. Oakland has a long history of progressive activism and, like you, we want to see our legacy grow. We have an amazing group of young progressive leaders who are proud to serve as a Co-Hosts for Oakland Rising’s first Young Progressives Party and we want you to join us and Oakland Rising as part of a new vanguard of progressive leadership ready to lift Oakland to new heights.
Oakland Rising educates and mobilizes voters in the flatlands to speak up for and take charge of the issues impacting their lives. OR is a multilingual, multiracial collaborative with deep roots in East and West Oakland’s neighborhoods, proving that everyday residents working together have the power to change the way our city is run. With longtime Oakland families and our newest neighbors working shoulder to shoulder, together we are building on Oakland’s incredibly rich history to advance smart, community-first solutions for a thriving Town.
Oakland Rising’s current work focuses on three major goals through which we are developing critical and key pieces of infrastructure necessary to build progressive power in Oakland:
1. Build a permanent political/electoral infrastructure;
2. Exercise and expand political influence; and
3. Align organizations and coordinate with other progressive forces.
Oakland Rising is currently running a campaign to talk with voters in the flatlands about getting good jobs at the Army Base Development and real solutions to the state’s budget crisis. Already in 2010, Oakland Rising has talked with over 17,000 Oaklanders about building a positive vision and issues platform for our city and overturning the state’s 2/3 budget majority and getting corporations to pay their fair share of property taxes.
Oakland Rising is doing the REAL WORK that our city and state needs. To celebrate the amazing accomplishments of this 3 year old organization we are having a Young Progressives Party and we want you in the house!!!
