Today City of San Francisco’s Supervisor Gordon Mar joined us to talk about how wealthy corporations, developers, and big money are influencing our elections and some of the policies that are there to combat the big money influence.
“We’ve had the public financing program in place for decades and it has helped to counterbalance some of the huge spending from the corporate and developer interests. I also sponsored legislation in 2019 to strengthen our public financing program in San Francisco where we made some changes to incentivize candidates to seek smaller donations. […] The City would match the donation up to $500 at a two to one rate and would encourage candidates to seek $500 donations but the 2019 public financing program legislation change limited the match to $150 encouraging candidates to seek smaller donations.”
