Put Oakland's needs first!: Join Oakland Rising in the fight to bring REAL jobs and resources to our community!

For too long, corporations have profited from loopholes that excuse them from paying their fair share of taxes and public dollars with no community returns. As a result, taxpayers are left in the dark with few family-sustaining jobs and fewer resources.
 
Last month, Oakland Rising talked to over 17,000 Oaklanders about real solutions to the budget crisis and protecting critical services. Over 70% said they wanted to raise tax revenue from corporations instead of cutting more services. 
 
This summer we have the opportunity to put community needs first. California is holding an election on June 8th, and several ballot initiatives (Props 16 and 17) are being promoted by corporations that are throwing millions of dollars into the election. The June 8th election is a critical time for working families to vote and make their voices heard.
 
At the same time, Oakland City and Port officials will be making crucial decisions about the redevelopment deal for the Oakland Army Base, a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to bring thousands of family-supporting jobs to Oakland.   The developers are a partnership between AMB, a global multi-billion-dollar company, and CCG, the local partner.  The deal will include significant public investment. With millions of taxpayer dollars going into the Army Base redevelopment, the developers should sign a contract with the community to ensure good jobs and training opportunities for Oaklanders.
 
It's time we hold corporations accountable as a responsible partner in fixing our broken budget and bringing jobs and resources to Oakland.  Next week, we will be going back out to engage voters about the June elections, the budget crisis, and the Oakland Army Base.  Join EBASE in talking to residents about bringing real jobs and resources to our community!
