November 2, 2010 - Tipping the Scale
Oakland Rising and our partners around the state are talking with voters about the November 2nd General Election! We're educating and mobilizing voters in East and West Oakland around the follow state propositions:
YES on Propositions 24 and 25
NO on Propositions 23 and 26
Here's a little more detail about each one:
Vote NO on Prop 23 :
Prop 23, the Dirty Energy Initiative is funded by Texas Oil companies and would stop a landmark California law to slow pollution and climate change. Our neighborhoods have the most pollution and our families have the highest rates of asthma. Don’t we deserve clean air and good jobs?
Vote YES on Prop 24:
Prop 24 would close corporate tax loopholes that Arnold created last year. These loopholes let corporations bend the rules and get out of paying their fair share in taxes. There are already too many loopholes for corporations, and not
enough for us.
Vote YES on Prop 25:
In California, 2/3 of state legislators have to agree to pass the Budget. As a result, for the last 20 years, California has not passed a budget on time. Prop 25 will restore democracy – majority rules – to our budgeting by allowing a majority
vote to pass the budget.
Vote NO on Prop 26:
Prop 26 is another attempt by oil and tobacco companies to get out of paying for the cost of pollution by labeling legitimate fees as taxes, which require a 2/3 vote for approval. Democracy is based on majority rules.
