Oakland Rising is working with our partners to put a Millionaires Tax on the California ballot in 2012. Because we don't have to keep cutting education and essential services if everyone just pays their fair share.

Oakland Rising and our partners around the state are talking with voters about the November 2nd General Election! We're educating and mobilizing voters in East and West Oakland around the follow state propositions:

YES on Propositions 24 and 25

NO on Propositions 23 and 26

Put Oakland's needs first!: Join Oakland Rising in the fight to bring REAL jobs and resources to our community!

Campaign for Census and State Budget Solutions

We want to make sure that our community is counted in this year’s Census because it affects how much federal funding our city receives. It could make the difference between getting or losing a school, health clinic, senior center or job-placement center.

California is facing a $20 billion budget shortfall. Our tax and budgeting system is over 30 years old and hasn’t kept up with changing economic and political conditions. We’ll be asking Oaklanders about solutions to this budget crisis. Issues like split-roll taxes and the 2/3 budget majority will be voted on within the next few years.

Instant Runoff Voting

On Tuesday, January 5th, 2010, Oakland's City Council finally voted to start using Instant Runoff Voting (IRV). This means that Oakland will no longer have June Primary Elections for local elected officials, but rather a ranked choice election of candidates, including Mayor, in November. Various governmental and community groups will work together starting Spring 2010 to educate voters about the changes they can expect at the ballot box.
