REGISTER TO VOTE: Protect Oakland Renters, Reform Juvenile Justice, and Tax The Rich

With 77 days until the election is over, Oakland voters have a lot to be excited about on the ballot. Locally, the Town will be looking at strengthening protections for renters to combat the tidal wave of displacement sweeping through our communities. Measure JJ, the Renter Protection Act of 2016, will expand eviction protections and limit rent increases in Oakland.

Oakland Rising will also be working with our partner organizations at California Calls on two game-changing propositions:

· Prop 55 will maintain funding for education and healthcare by renewing the Prop 30 income tax on wealthy Californians earning more than $250,000 per year.

· Prop 57 will decrease the likely of youth being tried as adults for minor crimes, and increase parole opportunities for felons convicted of non-violent crimes.

It’s going to take voters coming out in full force to create these changes. Oakland Rising is registering voters now through early September as part of a statewide effort to add 27,420 new voters to the electorate. We are the majority, and we need to show our strength by registering and voting!
